Technical issues

I can't login/have forgotten my password - what do I do?

You will have received an email invitation from the administrator/company contact. Within this email there is a secure hyperlink that will take you directly to your Talent Q assessment homepage. Alternatively, you can go direct to www.mytalentq.com and enter your username and password provided in the email (please note the password is case sensitive).

If you have lost this email, please contact the administrator/company contact who will be able to send the email to you again. It is often worth checking your junk folder for emails first.

I wasn't asked for a username and password - how do you know it's me?

The only time you won't be asked for a username and password is if you have clicked on the 'Login to My Talent Q' hyperlink within the invitation email you will have received from the administrator/company contact. In this case, you will not be required to give a username and password as the hyperlink is unique to you and will therefore log you straight in to the system.

What happens if I lose my Internet connection or get interrupted when I am part way through an assessment; can I restart?

If you lose Internet connection whilst completing Dimensions (the personality questionnaire), you will be able to log back in and carry on from the point you reached previously. You will not be able to start at the beginning again.

For Elements ability tests, you will only be allowed to log back in once and doing so will return you to the point at which you were interrupted. If your Internet connection is lost again on any of the Elements assessments you will need to contact the administrator/company contact and they will advise you accordingly at that point.

I am using an Apple Mac computer and am having problems viewing reports - what do I do?

When using an Apple Mac computer, you may experience an issue when viewing reports, where the text is not displayed correctly. This generally happens when using the default 'Preview' software, as this software doesn’t contain all of the necessary functionality to open all types of PDF documents correctly.

To avoid this problem, we recommend that you use Adobe’s free PDF viewer software, which can be downloaded from www.adobe.com/uk/products/reader

Instructions

  • First, download and install the Adobe PDF reader software – this has been confirmed to be fully compatible with our PDF reports.
  • Once installed, pick a report to open via ‘Finder’ and then right-click to show the file context menu.
  • Hover over ‘Open With’ and then select Adobe Reader. The report will now be open using Adobe’s PDF reader and should appear correctly.

What happens if I have multiple windows/tabs open when completing the assessments?

If you have completed the practice assessments, ensure you log out successfully and close down all other browser windows and tabs properly before logging in to complete any real assessments that will be counted towards your job application.

This will ensure there isn’t any confusion as to which assessment is a practice and which is the real assessment.

Preparing and completing assessments

I have a special requirement that I'd like to be taken into consideration before I complete the test, what should I do?

In line with best practice, candidates with any special requirements are considered on a case-by-case basis in order to ensure that any necessary adjustments made to tests are appropriate for the candidate in question.

There are a number of adjustments that can be made to facilitate individual needs, for example:

  • Increasing test times.
  • Increasing on-screen font size.
  • Allowing a person with a disability to use a scribe or a reader during the test.

Any adjustments made for candidates with disabilities must be compliant with the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA). Your invitation to complete the assessment will contain contact details for the administrator/company contact, who you should contact to discuss your needs.

Can I complete practice questions beforehand?

We have practice assessments for Elements Verbal, Numerical and Logical that you can access at any time - see our guide to Elements.

You can also view example questions for Dimensions, Aspects and MultiView, which will familiarise you with the content and format of these assessments.

Each Talent Q assessment also has a practice section that must be completed before moving onto the main assessment. You may attempt practice questions as many times as you wish, until you feel you are ready to start the assessment. The Elements assessments provide you with feedback on your answers within the practice sections, detailing what the correct answer should be and why. When you get to the end of the practice section, if you wish to repeat it click 'Leave Practice' and you will be taken back to the home page where you can choose to start again.

What do I need to complete the assessments?

In the email invitation you receive about sitting the Talent Q assessments, you will be told what you will need in order to complete the relevant assessments.

For all assessments you will need a computer with internet access. We recommend that all assessments are completed using a keyboard and mouse; however they can be completed using keyboard controls only (e.g. Tab to move between fields, Space bar to select a field and Return to enter a response). No specific software packages are required.

For Elements Numerical, you will also need a calculator, paper and pencil/pen.

How long do I need to set aside to complete the assessments?

Time limits only apply to Talent Q ability tests:

  • Elements Verbal: 16 minutes
  • Elements Numerical: 16 minutes
  • Elements Logical: 15 minutes
  • Aspects Ability Verbal: 8 minutes
  • Aspects Ability Numerical: 10 minutes
  • Aspects Ability Checking: 6 minutes

Within these tests, each question is individually timed.

You should complete each test in one sitting; however if you have more than one to complete, you can sit each test separately if you prefer. Please make sure when completing the test(s) that you will not be disturbed and ensure that any other applications, software and browsers are closed down on the computer you are using.

You can find out more about the tests and the question timings on the Elements and Aspects Ability pages.

There are no time limits for completing Dimensions, Aspects Styles and Multiview; however typical completion times are:

  • Aspects Styles: 8 minutes
  • Dimensions: 25 minutes
  • Multiview: 25 minutes
What happens if I have selected my answer but the time runs out before I click through to the next question?

In this scenario you do not need to worry as your answer will be submitted. If you select an answer so that it appears in the 'Selected answer' box but do not click 'Accept and Continue', the assessment system will submit the answer on your behalf if the time runs out. Therefore by making a selection, this will count as your submitted answer.

Aren't these tests available on the internet? How do employers know if someone has cheated?

Talent Q assessments are not freely available online; they are only made available to candidates by trained HR and related professionals.

We have also addressed the issue of cheating through the innovative design of our online systems:

  • Our ability tests are 'adaptive', which means that candidates are presented with questions that are selected on the basis of their performance on previous questions. This means that each candidate is likely to receive a unique combination of questions and therefore reduces the risk of candidates sharing questions and answers.
  • There are multiple versions of the questions in the assessment system and this further reduces the chance of two people receiving the same test questions.

Verification tests

If candidates are completing our online ability tests remotely, e.g. from home, we advise employers to follow this up with a verification test, which is administered in a supervised setting at the company's premises later on in the recruitment process. The results of each test are then compared to see how consistently the candidate performed across both tests. Therefore if a candidate has asked a friend to complete the first test on their behalf, it would be easy to identify if test performance was inconsistent.

Honesty contract

Honesty and trust play a large part in the successful implementation of the online ability tests since a large number of candidates complete these tests remotely, e.g. from home. You will be asked to agree to our Honesty Contract before commencing an assessment. This is shown online before you progress on to the tests.

How do I make sure I am completing the assessment in my preferred language?

Each Talent Q assessment is available in many different languages. In normal circumstances the administrator/company contact will have given you permission to select your preferred language from the top right hand corner of the screen once you are logged into the assessment system (My Talent Q).
